Oxfam asks, “What Happened to the Seasons?” in a new, alarming report, “Suffering the Science: Climate Change, People, and Poverty”

For the umpteenth time this year, or so it seems, a report has been released detailing the current devastation and impending calamity of climate change on the poorest, most marginalized regions of the world. Oxfam International, a global advocacy group fighting to end poverty and injustice, released a new climate report, suffering-the-science-pic6Suffering the Science: Climate Change, People, and Poverty” that details the alarming effects of climate change on our world’s poorest countries, such as disappearing season that have caused mass famine, displacement and resource wars.

While this is a fresh report released yesterday, the subject is not. 2009 has seen its share of climate studies and reports detailing the negative effects of our carbonized world and our energy demands on the planet. What is different about this report is a study within it called “What Happened to the Seasons?” that looks at the personal stories of farmers and their families from all over the world that are experiencing “less distinct seasons” that have appeared to “shrunk” altogether and are either “hotter and dryer” or “hotter and wetter”, which have farmers uncertain of when and what to grow in order to produce a successful and sustainable crop. According to the Oxfam study, “Hunger is and will continue to be one of the major impacts of climate change. It may be the defining human tragedy of this century.

As noted in an earlier piece about the 300,000 lives lost each year due to starvation, malnutrition, migration and disaster related to climate change, the Oxfam paper also points to “rich, mostly Northern countries” that demand the majority of the energy consumed on the planet are the least concerned with the impact that energy use has around the world. “The issue remains of comparatively little concern to citizens of rich countries: it came at the bottom of a list of 20 concerns in a recent poll in the USA.” This is tragic, but not the least bit shocking.

Unfortunately, the fingertips that control the proverbial electric sockets do not, or have not, paid much mind to the news reel of recent studies and reports that call them to action and point out the devastation that is mounting out of their energy ‘needs’. A follow up to this article will juxtapose this new report with recent DOE data on vampire energy loss, identifying massive amounts of money and energy wasted due to vampire energy loss. The numbers are staggering …
